Revenge is sweet, just like candy.
Candy Seaborne knows she’s badass. She takes after her father, an assassin and possibly a spy, although he won’t admit to either. She idolizes him. Her dream is to follow in his footsteps. But first, she has to finish high school.
Biding her time, waiting for real life to begin, Candy craves drama and isn’t above manufacturing some. If you’re a classmate who wronged her or a boyfriend who cheated, watch your back. She’s no pushover, and revenge may be her favorite pastime.
Jonah Bryson is the senior class heartthrob who breaks all the stereotypes. He’s a jock, but he isn’t the typical player. He’s moody and antisocial. No girl has gotten anywhere with him since his last girlfriend broke his heart.
Candy sees Jonah as a challenge and the perfect distraction. But she may be in over her head because unlike everyone else, Jonah isn’t buying her tough act. He sees the lost, lonely girl inside. He sees too much. When he looks at her that way, she wants to let her guard down and be vulnerable. But that’s the last thing she should do because her father’s world is spilling over into hers, and life is about to get real much sooner than Candy expected.
Debra Doxer has an exceptional writing style. She had always had a touch of grace when it comes to romance writing. It was always my favorite of hers because she puts that vitality that every romance book needs and she did not disappoint me with this new instalment. Like Candy has bits of Mystery and danger to it. The story began with a slow burn, it didn’t eagerly push to the mystery of the book, I’m assuming Debra wanted to direct it all on the character development, it worked fine as well because I enjoyed all of her characters even if some were downright bitchy mean.
It was very enjoyable to read another backstabbing book. Candy lives a precarious and entertaining life, she’s a badass and doesn’t give any shit about what you think. I’m sure she loves the glares she receives from her peers. I think Candy and I would get along well. But Candy got a new friend who doesn’t seem to want anything to do with her, but his eyes says something else. Jonah is trouble but trouble is what Candy wants and she’s not about to be the one to lose to a super hot and sexy antisocial jock head.
I love that Debra didn’t write those usual WTF scenes where you find drama a little too dramatic that it becomes peevish. She fused it with a little realism and fundamental aspects that every reality needs. I could easily relate to them because the characters and I didn’t have a huge boundary. Candy and Jonah were able to create a connection with me. Furthermore, their connection to each other is deeper than what Debra reveals to us. Fair warning, this has a major cliffhanger.
Don’t worry, you’ll be able to handle that cliffhanger since the sequel is coming out soon. In addition, you can’t not read this book because it’s amazing. To simply put it, I really loved Like Candy, it’s intriguing, mysterious, dark, romantic and has a touch of fun. Revenge has always been fun to write about and Debra applied it flawlessly.
Debra Doxer was born in Boston, and other than a few lost years in the California sunshine, she has always resided in the Boston area. She writes fiction, technical software documents, illegible scribbles on sticky notes, and texts that get mangled by AutoCorrect. She writes for a living, and she writes for fun. hen her daughter asks when she’ll run out of words, her response always is, “When I run out of time.”
